Zeus was a foundling, born sometime in January, 1978. Abandoned
with his
littermates in February in a doctor's parking lot. My son, Jeff (then
19), found the kittens, took care that someone in the doctor's office
would foster them, and he kept one. The kitten was only about 4 weeks
old, the tiniest baby you could imagine - too young, really, to be
away from his mother.

A few months later, Jeff moved back home. We
were preparing then to add our first Afghan Hound, Tara, to our
family. So, actually, both Zeus and Tara arrived on the scene at
about the same time, and took comfort in each other. Zeus grew up
believing that he was an Afghan Hound, and Tara developed cat-like
qualities. They ate and slept together. Zeus was always small, and
we called him the "Little Cat that Never Grew Up". He enjoyed my
fussing over him, and I had a wonderful time taking photos of him, he
would pose for me.

At the tender age of 5, Zeus developed epilepsy. We lived through
some
very scarey times over a 5-month period, when at any given moment, he
would burst into a full-bloom seizure, hanging from drawer-pulls,
crashing into walls, flailing about the rooms. The first time it
happened, our three Afghans rushed to his aid, and I screamed,
"Everybody, DOWN!", and all dropped to the floor. Another time, Zeus
was walking past Bodie, when he began seizuring, and leapt up and into
Bo's long side coat, where he became tangled. I told Bo to "stand and
stay", and Bo stood there and watched poor Zeus have a seizure while
hanging from the dog's side. No amount of medical treatment helped,
and we finally, out of loving kindness for our special little boy, had
him put to sleep.
